6 simple easy steps to say goodbye to your bad habit/behaviour.

Do you have any bad habits or behaviours that you really want to change?

Bad habits is hard to change. 江山易改本性难移。

I know right, saying is easier than done but no matter how hard it is, we can take steps and slowly change the behaviour. Well, if you have the heart to change your bad behaviour and you want to change it, then work hard on it and kick your bad habit away!

Bad habits are habitual and can be addicting like gambling, drinking, keep on electronics like hp, heavy gamers etc.

We all know that all these are bad for us but we still do it. So, here are some easy steps to take and I hope it does help you. Of course, the steps are not guarantee and most importantly it really depends on yourself. I believe that perseverance and determination in you will definitely help you to overcome and change your bad habit.

1.  Set a short-term goal which you want to change your bad habit/behaviour
Eg.
a short term goal of sleeping 8 hours daily from 10pm to 6am/  Try using lesser hp during day and night time)

2.   Write down a simple reward which you want to have after you achieved your goal

Rewards can help you increase your motivation and to achieve your goal.

Eg. plan a getaway trip with my friends if I have achieved my goal
buy a small gift for myself it I have achieved my goal (like treat yourself an ice-cream)

 3. List down the pros and cons of changing the behaviour

 Eg.
your goal is sleeping 8 hours daily from 10pm to 6am.

Pros
Cons
  1. Reduce tiredness
  1. Lesser time to do your things at night
  1. Increase memory

  1. Improves lifespan

From the table, it has shown that the pros have outweighed the cons so this will help you to become committed to change your sleeping habit and prepared to take action on it.

3. Write down some actions which you want to take and execute your action.

For eg.
Your goal is to use lesser hp during day and night time

So actions which you want to take

Action 1. At night, You can read some books so during day time you can go library to borrow some books which interest you and so you can read it at night.

Action 2.  Involve healthy activities like football games with friends during weekends.

Action 3. Ty to put your hp aside when you are doing a task.

Action to be taken at night!

4.  Provides cues to help you

Well, eg you can have a poster to paste on your table to remind you to achieve your goal.

Paste it at your desk and to remind you the consequences and dangers of sleep deprivation so
it will remind you and to raise awareness and emotions the importance of sleep.
.

5.  'We' Time not 'Me' time

Bad habits/behaviours can relapse very easily after 1 week or even 1 day. You will get tempted very easily and to return to your bad habit and give up your goal very easily.   So here come your family and good friends!

Remember is not 'Me' time but 'We' time. You can tell your own family or good friends (not friends who also doing the same bad habit as you) about your goal, the bad habit which you want to change.

Ask them for help and involve in your goal and activities!!!

For eg if you want to use hp during day time and not night time.
Parents can play a part by chatting with your own child or involved in healthy activities like playing interesting board games or exercises like football too.  This also help to increase family bonding time. Parents can be a role model to kids too by not using hp when chatting with your child or eating meals as well.
Friends can also play a part by not keep msg you or no hp during meal times too. Whoever using hp will be confiscated.

With  family and friends encouragement and help this will help you to progress your goals and not to give up so easily from reaching your goals!

Hope you guys will get to maintain your new behaviour  and will also get to say goodbye to your bad habit/ behaviour!

If you have any useful steps which you have tried before, do share and comment on my blog too. Thanks.
